Napoli can still win Serie A title
The coach encourages his side to keep believing as the enter the final turn in the title race, insisting ‘until the maths says it’s still open then all the games are important’
Walter Mazzarri has reminded Napoli winning the Serie A title is still possible – and there are five steps to take, starting with Palermo on Saturday.
The Italian insists his side can climb their way up to the top of the table, and hopes that AC Milan, who are six points ahead in Serie A, will stumble at Brescia.
“Until the maths says it’s still open then all the games are important and we will always keep trying,” Mazzarri told reporters.
“We have five finals, and we will give 130 per cent. Let’s try to carry on like this.”
Napoli lost touch with the league leaders following their defeat to Udinese, and Mazzarri concedes that their weekend opponents pose a difficult challenge.
“It hurt losing to Udinese, but I told my players this anger should be converted into positive energy for Palermo,” he added.
“What can worry me is the strength of our opponents tomorrow. They are in great form and come off the back of a 2-2 draw against Milan in the Coppa Italia. They were super in that game.”
His high-flying season has grabbed the attention of hawks as well as admirers, but Mazzarri would not be drawn into his future, despite speculation linking him with Juventus.
“I speak at the end. Last year I did the same thing and I remained. If I don’t speak now I have my reasons. In the end you will know what I think,” he concluded.
