Kick off: 12:45 GMT – 12th February 2011.

Last weekend Manchester United were beaten for the first time in the league this season but Manchester City shouldn’t expect to face a wounded animal when they meet this weekend as United will be doing everything in their power to return to winning ways and come out victorious in the Manchester derby.

The defeat to Wolves last weekend didn’t prove quite as costly as it should have done for Manchester United with both Arsenal and Chelsea also dropping points, however, their Manchester neighbours did manage to close the gap with a win over West Brom. That victory put Manchester City five points behind United having played a game more so there is still a considerable gap between the two sides yet.

A win for Manchester United here will almost certainly rule out any hopes of Manchester City becoming champions for the first time since 1968, however, a win for the blue half of Manchester will put City right back in the thick of the title race while also going a long way to proving to anyone who continues to doubt their authenticity as title contenders that they are very much capable of going all the way.

The loss of Rio Ferdinand is a big blow for Manchester United as his central defensive partnership with Nemanja Vidic is key to United’s success. With Jonny Evans also ruled out through injury, Chris Smalling is expected to deputise so that is an area which Manchester City may look to exploit at Old Trafford.

There were hopes of Mario Balotelli returning for Manchester City in time to face United but the game looks to have came to soon for the Italian striker as he continues to struggle with a knee injury. Nigel de Jong is also a doubt for City but one man who will be facing Manchester United is their former striker Carlos Tevez who will be looking to cause considerable damage against his former club on his old stomping ground.
