Tottenham forward Emmanuel Adebayor met Togo Football Association officials on Wednesday to discuss a return to the national side.

The 27-year-old, currently on loan from Manchester City, has not played for his country for nearly two years.

He made himself unavailable following an incident before the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, when the Togo team bus was attacked by gunmen as they made it way from Congo to Angola and three of the side’s staff died.

Togo failed to qualify for the 2012 Cup of Nations, but Adebayor could come out of retirement for the second leg of his nation’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against Guinea Bissau on Tuesday if talks are successful.

Speaking to BBC, Adebayor said: “I will meet the Togo FA today and I hope we can agree on something.”

“I am keen on returning to help my country but there are things that we need to talk about before I can confirm whether I am returning or not.”

“I really want to help my country but there are some pressing issues that must be addressed for the benefit of the entire team.”
