Wolfsburg put €40 million price tag on Dzeko; Mancini prepares January clear-out
Wolfsburg: Dzeko costs €40 million
Wolsfburg sporting director Dieter Hoeness has revealed the asking price for Edin Dzeko is €40 million.
Real Madrid have emerged as favourites to sign the Bosnian striker after Jose Mourinho started the search for the new centre forward, but Hoeness says los Merengues won’t get him cheap.
“The price for Dzeko is not a secret: it’s €40 million,” said Hoeness. “There are many teams interested in Dzeko, but nobody has an agreement with him.
“We have not received a call from Madrid…I myself met Florentino (Perez) and (Jorge) Valdano when I went to the box at Bernabeu to watch Real play Milan and Dzeko was not mentioned.”
The player’s agent, Irfan Redzepagic, admits Real would be a great opportunity for his client.
“It would be foolish to say no to Real,” said Redzepagic.
It seems that Real would find it hard to negotiate with Hoeness but Florentino Perez has instead opened talks with Wolfsburg president Francisco Garcia Sanz, with whom he has a very good relationship, meaning the deal could still come to fruition.
Mancini prepares January clear out
Roberto Mancini wants to trim his squad before entering the market in January and he has just told six players they can leave the club.
The Italian has reportedly been undermined by the players Mark Hughes had brought to the Eastlands and he is now eager to see their backs.
Mancini has informed Joleon Lescott, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Emmanuel Adebayor, Wayne Bridge, Roque Santa Cruz and Shay Given they can leave the club in January, as he looks to retrieve at least a portion of the money invested in them.
City paid the total of £80 million for the six players who have mostly been on the fringes during Roberto Mancini’s reign, and the Citizens will have to accept big losses as their value has descended a great deal.
This is clearly just a start of City’s dealings in the transfer market as Mancini is eager to get as much quality in January as money can buy.

Maxi Lopez drops Juventus hint
Catania striker Maxi Lopez admits he would like to play for Juventus, but the Argentine says he wants to beat the Bianconeri on Sunday.
The former Barcelona striker has been widely tipped to join Juventus in January, but he, nonetheless, wants to beat Juve at the weekend.
“It’s just an important game for me. You just have to look at the table and Juventus’ history to recognise that,” said Maxi Lopez. “If we can beat them then I’ll be happy.
“The transfer rumours? They make me happy. I feel honoured when I see that big clubs are interested in me.
“I hope to one day play for a top level side and Juventus are one of those.
“I just hope to remain in this country which has adopted me, making me feel at home. I find many similarities between Argentina and Italy, footballing and non.”
The Argentine has obviously invited the Bianconeri to make him an offer and with Juventus lacking the means to sign a world-class striker, they could settle for the Catania forward.
