Raul is eager to remain at Schalke despite speculation linking him with a move away from the Veltins-Arena.

The 34-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and he is hopeful that negotiations with the club will come to a positive conclusion.

“I’m optimistic that we will come to an agreement – at the moment there is absolutely no reason not to renew talks and I hope to be able to continue playing for Schalke,” Raul said.

“If an agreement is reached, I would be very happy.”

Raul has scored 10 goals in 17 Bundesliga games this season. Schalke restart their league campaign by hosting Stuttgart on January 21.
