Korea’s Koo Ja-cheol, the top scorer in this year’s AFC Asian Cup, has signed with VfL Wolfsburg in Germany’s Bundesliga.

Koo’s club Jeju United announced on Monday that it has worked out a trade with the German team and Koo has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract.

The 22-year-old midfielder flew to Germany immediately after the Asian Cup match for third place against Uzbekistan on Saturday and had a medical test before signing the deal.

Established in 1945, Wolfburg won its first Bundesliga title in the 2008-2009 season. This season it is currently sitting in 12th place out of 18 teams with five wins, eight draws and seven losses.

The team plays in the Volkswagen Arena, named for the automaker which is also based in Wolfsburg, a city of 120,000 people in the state of Lower Saxony.

Koo will share the pitch with Makoto Hasebe, a starting midfielder for the German team who captained Japan to its fourth Asian Cup title last week.
