Edin Dzeko is so determined to leave Wolfsburg for Real Madrid that he is prepared to sacrifice a €4million bonus fee, Spanish media have reported.

The 24-year-old Bosnian has a clause in his contract with the 08/09 Bundesliga champions which states that 10 per cent of a future transfer fee would go directly to the player.

Steve McClaren’s side are so determined to keep their star striker at the Volkswagen Arena, according to Spanish daily AS, that they will insist Real pay the full value of Dzeko’s release clause – €40million.

Dzeko – who is the top league goal-scorer in Wolfsburg’s history with 65 goals in 109 games – is prepared to forgo that payment to encourage Madrid to make an offer.

However, Wolfsburg general manager Dieter Hoeness has assured assured fans that his most valuable asset is going nowhere this winter, saying “this is purely a media issue… we have had no contact with Real Madrid.”
